Cloth. Condition: Very Good with no dust jacket. Early Edition. 7" x 4"; IN 1899, LITTLE, BROWN, AND COMPANY PUBLISHED A TWELVE-VOLUME SET OF JANE AUSTEN'S NOVELS. THIS SET INCLUDED ALL OF HER MAJOR WORKS: SENSE AND SENSIBILITY, PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, MANSFIELD PARK, EMMA, NORTHANGER ABBEY, AND PERSUASION. IT ALSO INCLUDED LADY SUSAN, THE WATSONS (WITH A MEMOIR) , AND LETTERS. A scarce edition, particularly, in original green cloth covers. Gilt designs on covers. As always the green spines have faded to brown. Minor wear to tops of some spines. Each volume complete with b/w frontis plate. "Letters" has minor faults which is due to moisture. Other volumes are fault free excepting the pictured volume "Letters" which shows moisture faults. Overall a very nice, firmly bound, set. Volumes are roughly 2-300 pages each. Signed and dated by Mary B Gardener, 1899. This desirable set has been recently listed and sold in the $3000 to $5000 and up range.…

Gray & Sons, Cambridge, with their discreet binder's mark blind-stamped on the lower front dentelles. Full meadow green fine-grained morocco (slightly mottled with slight tanning on spine), 5 raised ribs on spine, bright gold gilt lettering on spine, double gilt rules along edges carried over to four gilt rules on inner dentelles, beautiful marbled end papers, all edges gilt (enhanced with a charming full-color fore edge painting of two scenes from the book; Fanny & Edmund? in a park setting and Fanny? playing a harp with a center portrait likely representing Jane Austen herself.
