Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. 8vo; 24 leaves with samples on rectos. RARE SPECIMEN VOLUME WITH 144 DYE SAMPLES. This is the very scarce specimen volume of this important manual on dyeing, dating from the early years of artificial dyes. The text volumes are common but the specimen volume is rarely seen: Rare Book Hub records only one copy for sale, in 1997. Very good condition: the cloth binding is a little scuffed, rear hinge starting but the whole still holding firm; early ownership inscription (1895) to the title-page; specimens generally exceptional, noting only slight loss to one specimen (10mmx5mm loss to lower edge of no.143, scarlet).
