Seven of the scarce Severn Edition novels, written by English novelist and poet Francis Brett Young, with The City of Gold signed by Young.In…the publisher's original cloth, in the original dust wrappers, all unclipped except House and Little.Set around the river Severn, stretching through the West of England, Brett Young was best known for his novels representing the West Midlands, including the contrast between industry and nature. In them he intently focuses on the human condition, looking at the suffering of working classes.- Marching on Tanga (1935, first published 1917).- The Black Diamond (1937 new edition, first published in 1921).- The House Under the Water (1947 reprint, first published 1932).- This Little World (1950 reprint, first published 1934).- White Ladies (1937, first published in 1935).- They Seek a Country (1947 reprint, first published 1937).- The City of Gold (1948, first published in 1939), signed. In the publisher's original cloth, in the original dust wrappers. Externally, minor rubbing to edges and slight bumping to the heads and tails of the spines, and to the extremities. The odd spot to dust wrappers, heavier to City and wrapper spine of House. Signs of browning and fading, very light to World, heavier to Tanga, City and Black wrapper spines, and rear wrapper of Country. A tape mark to head of rear wrapper joint of Country. Slight signs of edgewear, with nicking to heads and tail of wrapper spines, and to extremities, lighter to World, a little heavier to Ladies, City and Tanga, with a very small split to head of wrapper spine. Protective coatings are adhered to the wrappers and books and cannot be removed. A couple of spots to fly leaves of Diamond. Previous owner's ink inscription to front wrapper of House. End papers are generally bright and clean, with slight signs of browning. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with minor age toning. Very Good.
