    Leather. Condition: Very Good Indeed. None (illustrator). The first volume of this detailed history of the Marechal de la Force, with a letter from the Duc, in the original French language. French language. Volume one of two. Signed by the author to A Lady Cheylesmore. Illustrated with portrait frontispiece and two double paged plates. Collated complete. A detailed history of the Marechal de la Force, a Marshal of France who survived the St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre in 1572 while his father and older brother did not. After serving Henri IV, he fought with the Huguenots against Louis XIII. Written by Duc de la Force, a title in the peerage of France created in 1637 for members of the Caumont family who were lords of the village of La Force. Includes a handwritten letter from the Duc de la Force presumably Armand-Joseph, dated 21 September 1925. Bound in quarter calf with paper covered boards. Externally, very smart with light shelf wear to the extremities. Fading to the spine. Original paper binding bound in. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. Envelope with letter bound in to the front of the text. Previous owner's book label to the front endpaper. Very Good Indeed. signed by author. book.
