Here is yet another of what has been many books from a fairly large and rather eclectic collection of art and related books, acquired last winter, once cherished by a former owner-artist but now in need of a new home. This one is somewhat uncommon online and probably more so in this nice condition. As I have mentioned elsewhere, I am not going into a great deal of detail about these books because if interested, you probably already know more about them than me. I am also going to offer them at very reasonable prices, considering their condition and more or less under what they are being offered for online. The full title of the book is: Markus Raetz, Biennale di Venezia, 1988 . This small and thin soft cover book is the catalog of the works, I presume, presented at the Biennale di Venezia in 1988. The book was published by Schweiz Bundesamt für Kulturpflege, Bern in collaboration with the Edition Stähli, Zürich (Switzerland). This small book is bound in light blue wrappers with a black & white photo pasted-down on the cover; it s oblong shape measures 10 ½ x 7 inches and includes about 50 unnumbered pages. There is a short essay about the Artist, in four languages: German, English, French and Italian. The bulk of the book are the plates. Condition: This book is in very good condition. There is some minor wear to the covers and someone has handwritten the Artist s name on the spine. Please see the photos. Inside, the book is unmarked and unblemished in any way and the pages and plates are clean and bright from cover to cover. The binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.

Schauplatz ist La Gara in der Nähe von Genf. Dort hat der international bekannte Künstler zusammen mit dem belgischen Gartenarchitekten Erik Dhont ein Palindrom-Labyrinth geschaffen. Seit Jahrzehnten entwirft und gestaltet Markus Raetz Formen, die sich anpassen, überschneiden, überlagern und verwandeln, getragen von einer Einbildungskraft, die aus formalen Erkundungen, sicherem Sprach- gefühl und handwerklicher Fertigkeit schöpft. So sah er rasch, dass dieser Ort ein Pflanzenlabyrinth aufnehmen könnte, wie man es manchmal auf alten Herrengütern findet. Der Grundriss dieses aus acht Baumarten bestehenden Labyrinths, zeichnet sich durch die unvorhersehbare Freiheit seiner Mäander und Irrwege aus, obwohl seine Wegkreuzungen gemäss den Buchstaben eines lateinischen Palindroms an Schnittstellen angeordnet sind, die in weiten Abständen einer grossen Ellipse folgen.
