Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good+. First Edition. Maxfield Parrish was one of the most important illustrators and artists of the early 20th century. Alma Gilbert was uniquely qualified to write this book since she was a curator at the Maxfield Parrish museum. She covers the various periods of his life and delves into the family relationships that were scandalous during his lifetime. This is a beautifully illustrated with many color illustrations of his illustrations, calendars, paintings, murals, landscapes, etc. as well as b&w photographs taken by Parrish himself, including many of his models that depict the artists creative process. This is a large-format book that will appeal to anyone interested in this man's life and work. There are 145 color plates including two folding pages in the center that create a large 4 page color spread. With the exception of a small dent to the lower edge of the front cover (which is not particularly noticeable), this is a very nice copy with no owner names or other markings to the interior or the exterior. The book is bound in red quarter cloth covers. The dust jacket in similarly nice condition with no chips, tears, markings or price-clipping. Size: 11" x13"; Color & B&W Illustrations; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 224 pages.
