Fourth Printing (May, 1942) in Very Good in Good in price-clipped dust jacket with chipping, small closed tears, foxing (to rear and along the outer edge of the book's pages) and soiling, including a long red transfer stain on the rear. (Please see pictures.) An early Newbery medal, not the thick and embossed kind generally seen, is on the front of the dust jacket. There is also a publisher's printed announcement on the front of the jacket that this book was "Chosen by the American Library Association as The Most Distinguished Contribution to Literature for Children published in 1941." Obviously, this book was the 1941 NEWBERY MEDAL WINNER. Edmonds was best known for historical novels, which included Drums Along the Mohawk. Edmonds won many literary awards, including the LEWIS CARROLL SHELF AWARD. This book has been SIGNED, not personalized, by the author. Signed copies of this book are uncommon in any edition and this early printing of Edmond's Newbery Award winning book is protectively wrapped in a Brodart cover. Bookseller Inventory # 000308
