First Edition
Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Maya Plisetskaya and the Bolshoi Ballet, presented by Nicolas F. Koudriavtzeff, under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture of U.S.S.R., was published by Canadian Concerts & Artists, Inc., in 1972. Not an ex-library copy, this 41-year-old, 30-page, 8 1/4" X 10 3/4", softcover offering is in VG condition. There is just the hint of yellowing of text's pages, and the outer-top corners of a handful of same display mild creases. The Bolshoi has foundational roots reaching as far back as 1773; it made its landmark tour of North America in 1959. This delightful, extremely well-preserved offering is the promotional program, most informative and illustrated with most of the troupe's principals accounted for(such as prima ballerina Maya Plisetskaya, lead male dancer Nicolai Fadeyechev, conductor Alexandre Kopylov, and other soloists Maya Samokhvalova, Nina Sorokina, Yuri Vladimorov, Maris Liepa, and Marina Kondratieva), detailing the performance stops on its 1972 Canadian Tour. There were, in all, five stops, beginning at the National Arts Centre, in Ottawa, June 16-17-18, and concluding at Acadia University, in Wolfville, on July 13-14-15. Attendees at the various performances enjoyed such ballets as "Swan Lake", "The Little Humpbacked Horse", "Raymonda", "Giselle", "Chopiniana", and "Carmen". Anyone who collects memorabilia pertaining to The Bolshoi, arguably the most esteemed ballet ensemble on this planet, might well give this over-sized, information and photo-filled program booklet a serious look. NOTE: Even the PERIOD ADVERTISEMENTS are a window into the culture of the early 1970's, featuring such businesses as Hudson's Bay Company, Overseas Marketing Ltd., Air Canada, CP Air, Piaget, Philippe Venet, Sabena, Remy Martin, and Peugeot. Thank you!!.
