Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. First Edition as published in 1961 by Faber. The condition of the book is 'Near Fine' and that of the dust-jacket is 'Good' as the spine section has a small missing section - now reinforced. Size of book in inches is 8.4 x 6.1. Numbered pagers run to 42 and the book weighs 0.20 kg. The publisher mixed up the numbering of the index so for example the index states that the first poem 'My Sister Jane' is on page 11 while in fact it is on page 13. There are eight full page ink drawings of the relatives. George Adamson also created the colour drawing that is shown on both the dust-jacket and front cover. An early publication by Ted Hughes and the witty descriptions of his family and relatives still read well. As with all our sales of books within the UK, we only ever charge a flat standard delivery cost of £3.35.

Quite a crisp and bright copy in stained and dust marked non-price-clipped dust wrapper, quite defective at spine panel with several areas of loss and two additional fractions of loss from the corner tips, plus a single lengthy crease to the front panel.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. George Adamson (illustrator). First Edition. The author's third book and first book of children's verse. ***First state of the first edition - the title-page has a 10.4cm space between the illustrator's name, George Adamson, and the publisher's name, Faber and Faber; Page 33 has the signature mark C, and the star printed below the title of the poem is point up [Sagar & Tabor A4 - ref. p11). Each poem is illustrated with a black and white full-page line drawing by George Adamson. ***Very good in yellow and red colour illustrated boards - both front and back boards illustrated by George Adamson. Head and tail of spine and top corners slightly bumped and rubbed, with edges slight worn. The red, yellow and blue illustrated boards are clean and bright with no fading. Bottom third of front hinge is slightly tender, but spine is tight. No inscriptions. Not foxed. Pages clean. ***In a very good colour illustrated dustwrapper which is rubbed at the edges, with tiny chipping, rubbing and creasing to the head and tail of spine and at top corners. Red lettering to spine has faded very slightly only. Front panel bright. Back panel slightly marked, discoloured and rubbed (being a white background). The dustwrapper is not price-clipped, and shows the original publisher's price of 10s 6d net. ***214 x 160 mm. 42 pages. ***One of Ted Hughes' early works, very hard to find now in such nice condition - being a children's book, most copies have been damaged and worn to some extent, especially as the book is a fragile slim production. Many copies also went to libraries. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.***.
