The letter continues, reading in short part: "Portland has a thriving arts community that will respond warmly to your visit. ART/AIDS feels 'An Evening With David Hockney' will draw the attention it needs for a successful fundraiser. If you haven't been here before, we can tell you the northwest offers much in the way of scenery, good food, nice, appreciative people, space, and quiet. But then, having spoken with former Oregonian, Ms. Colman [Karen Colman of David Hockney's staff], can tell you that. Requests for you are frequent. One could say deafening.
