Air Vice Marshal Sir George Ranald MacFarlane Reid, KCB, DSO, MC & Bar (25 October 1893 19 May 1991), known as Sir Ranald Reid, was a Scottish senior officer of the Royal Air Force. He began his career in aviation in the First World War with the Royal Flying Corps after transferring from the Black Watch. He rose through a series of command positions in the RAF to become a consequential participant in the Second World War. He was Air Attache at the British Embassy , Washington between 25 March 1933 and 3 October 1935. During that time he write letter in response to a request and which included a "Memorandum for Inventors" which was a guide to submitting inventions to the British Air Ministry.
