Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Beth and Joe Krush (illustrator). First Edition, Stated. A solid, very nice first printing copy of this elusive Newbery Medal winner! Boards in red cloth, line drawing in black to cover, black lettering to spine. Tight and square, no fraying. No previous owner name or any other writing. There are a very few--I counted eight--very small and faint stains but otherwise the 180 pages are perfectly clean and crisp, really nice, with no handing marks. The dust jacket has chipping to caps and corners but otherwise quite nice; see photos. The correct ($2.95) price is intact at bottom of front flap. No award stickers and no mention of award at top of flap as with later printings. Nice copy. Not Signed.
