'Ten-year-old Deborah, a cockney orphan, learns through a fantastic projection into a multi-dimensional world, and through her friendship with a little blind boy, more about the nature of proper behavior and love than most men could in a whole life of philosophical speculation. By nature, a serene and selfless child, her flight -- with the help of special glasses -- into a world peopled with lost children, good fairies, and evil spirits, becomes a means by which she can integrate all those curious longings and confusions which inevitably perplex a youngster. Fact and fantasy ultimately meet, and it is a happier, more secure Deborah who relinquishes the key to never-never land for the sake of an earthly fulfillment in love.
