Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Once listed, this will be the Only original book for sale anywhere on the Internet. Published in 1921 it is a First Edition (NAP). There is a page before the Contents Page titled By Way of Apology which includes the following paragraph "the author regrets that, due to hasty proof-reading several typographical errors have crept into the verses, which have a nasty habit of staring at him as the eyes of a dead man do at the man's murderer. But the author consoles himself with thought that such things creep into the best regulated publications". The author also states that despite the poetical faults that "critics may find in this collection, he did not try to exalt his work by dignifying it with the name poetry. It is merely that kind of composition commonly known as newspaper verse". Despite nearing its 100th birthday this book is in very good condition. It is well bound. The gilt lettering on the spine is still bright. The corners are not worn. The spine ends will have only a little wear, a tiny tear at the bottom. As you can see from the photographs, there is some dark soiling on the front and back covers. Credit them with protecting the pages of the book which are extremely clean, even the end papers. Really there are no flaws at all with the pages of the book, they're not darkened, there is no writing or markings or creasing. And while the top page edge has some dust soiling the pages themselves are unaffected. The poetry, I mean newspaper verse, is very light and humorous. And he wasn't kidding about the proof-reading. A small book: 6 by 4 inches. 104 pages.
