Square, tight and clean throughout with barely any page toning. Some wear to spine and rubbing to hinges and a hint of edge-wear. Still fresh and bright with no chipping, creases or tears. A very pretty collectable copy at a great price.

Tips of corners show some pinpoint wear, previous owner initials on endpaper. otherwise a fabulous copy, super clean and bright, with a tight binding and clean pages. Dust jacket has light wear to bottom corners, more modest wear to top corners (with a small chip at head of spine), light toning and a few light smudges to back. otherwise quite clean and attractive, now protected in an archival cover.

Spine ends lightly rubbed and bumped, book clean throughout and the binding tight and square. Price clipped dust jacket, without any tape or repairs, but with two closed tears, short one at top edge of front cover, and another one about 3 cm up along the front panel right at the spine, with a faint crease and some light nicks along the spine. Nice copy in jacket.

Octavo; publisher's black boards, red spine titling; [6],186pp. Moderate scuffing to board extremities, spine a bit cocked, scattering soil to textblock, else a Very Good, sound copy, albeit lacking scarce dust jacket. Noir crime novel by the author best known for his 1946 mystery Dark Passage, adapted into the film of the same title the next year starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall.

First edition. Near fine in dust jacket with light wear to the spine ends and corners, a small crease to top edge and bottom edge of front cover and lightly soiled on the back panel. Author's fifth mystery novel. Paul Ballard is the head of Missing Persons Bureau, and his customers are the people of the city who have lost other people and want Ballard to bring them back. But Ballard's prize customer is found dead, and this particular murder tears City Hall wide open. It left him with one crazy thousand-to-one chance of saving all the things he stood for, and his boss was not fooling when he said, "It's your funeral!".
