Three of those have been hand-colored by the artist. Jean-Henri Casimir Fabre (1823?1915) was a French naturalist and entomologist. His Souvenirs Entomologiques were celebrated for their engaging style combined with their keen observation of the world of the insects. The British fancier of beetles, Charles Darwin, admired Fabre's work even though the great French naturalist did not embrace Darwin's theory of evolution. Some cracks and wear to slipcase and chemise; a few hints of foxing in margins; internally near fine.
