When two brothers find a cymbal-banging doll in their great uncle's attic, it is revealed how their father Hal first discovered The Monkey many years before in an old chest of his father. Hal's father was a merchant mariner who disappeared under mysterious circumstances and Hal suspects this mechanical toy led to his father's disappearance. The funny expressionless monkey is cursed, and when it claps, someone close to Hal dies. Hal was tormented as a child. He watched as it enchanted his family, until Hal chucked it down an old well at the home of his uncle. But now, Hal seeking a large body of water and throws it in Crystal Lake.
