L'artiste mentionne la Galerie de Beaune, et relate une anecdote survenue a Dijon : elle y conseille au medecin de son defunt mari, desireux de comprendre la peinture de Picasso et de Georges Rouault, d'aller ecouter les conferences de son correspondant. (Morel had been given a 'testimonial luncheon' two days before the writing of this letter.) 1p, 4to. In good condition, lightly aged, creased and worn. Folded for postage. Ten lines of stylishly-…written text. Signed 'W. Rothenstein'. After thanking her for writing he states: 'Nothing could please me more than to feel that you care for something I have put into the painting of your noble husband. I think you must have been made to feel that there are countless people who do want to register their appreciation of sincerity & gallantry, of bearing under every kind of difficulty, & each has his own way of doing it.' Rothenstein's painting has not been traced.

Enveloppe conservee, affranchie et obliteree a Paris le 16 mai 1893. Louis Morel-Retz (1825-1899), connu sous le pseudonyme Stop, fut un dessinateur, peintre et caricaturiste francais. Collaborateur de journaux satiriques tels que Le Journal amusant et Le Charivari, il a laisse de nombreuses oeuvres humoristiques et illustratives, bien representatives de la vie artistique du XIXe siecle. Condition: Bon. 1 vol. in-8 reliure demi-toile blanche, Aux dépens des O.P.G., Achevé d'imprimer le 15 juillet 1941 à Wuppertal-Elberfeld, 77 pp. Très intéressant exemplaire, non numéroté mais contenant un dessin original signé de Morel-Fatio (variante du dessin illustrant la page 14), sur un feuillet portant le cachet d…e l'Oflag et également signé de 11 autres prisonniers, et portant la mention "En captivité, Camp de Soest (Westphalie) ce 20 septembre 1940. On y découvre également 2 feuillets au cachet de l'Oflag (liste des livres du lieutenant André Sauvageot, 3610 Bloc III chambre 58 et adresse du lieutenant), 2 laisser-passers pour Maurice Hurvoy, daté de mars 1943, et un programme du "Théâtre libre de Soest", mâtinée du 8 septembre 1940. La justification signale 50 exemplaires numérotés contenant un dessin original de Morel-Fatio (notre exemplaire n'est pas numéroté).On sait que l'écrivain Robert Brasillach fut détenu dans ce même camp de juin 1940 à mars 1940, où il rédigea son roman inachevé "Les Captifs".
