First Edition. 1st printing of the first Canadian hardcover edition scarcely SIGNED by the late author and artist, Kathleen Daly Pepper, on the title page in blue ink. A study of Canadian artist James Wilson Morrice that includes a Preface by Group of 7 member A.… Y. Jackson. The book is bound in yellow cloth. The corners and spine ends are sharp. It is marred only by old tape stains on the front paste-down. The jacket is crisp and price intact. Sunning to the spine with chips and tears at the heel and crown. There is also an old tape repair to the underside of the jacket at the crown of the spine. A short tear at the top edge of the rear hinge. Uniform tanning of the white back panel and flaps. Between 1930 and 1956, artist Kathleen Daly's work was shown in all the main exhibitions in Canada, and also in London, England. She exhibited at Hart House at the University of Toronto (1935), the British Empire Exhibition (1936), in the exhibition "A Century of Canadian Art" (1938) and at the Tate Museum in London (1938). She exhibited with the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts and the Ontario Society of Artists. In 1999 a retrospective of her work, and that of her husband George Pepper, was shown at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection in Kleinburg, Ontario. Daly joined the Canadian Group of Painters in 1934 and the Ontario Society of Artists in 1936. She became an Associate of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 1937 and an Academician in 1961.
