Mass Market Paperback. Condition: Good. First Paperback Edition. First US paperback edition. Originally published in hard covers in the UK in 1950 by Collins and then in the US by Dodd, Mead also in 1950. Spine has some edge rubbing with chipping at the top and bottom. The front cover has a some edge wear and creasing at the bottom. The back cover has a two inch crease to the top corner. The book has been poorly bound so that the page edges at the centre of the book protrude - no sign of any page loosening however and with reasonably careful handling the binding will be secure. Brown spotting to the insides of the covers with a small stain at the bottom corner of the inside of the front cover which also affects the first few pages a little. Creasing to the bottom corners of three pages at the front of the book. Previous owner's name in ink to the title page and the pages are browned but otherwise unmarked. First printing. Postage charge will be reduced by £1.50 when the order is processed.

The first television tie in edition, with the incomparable Joan Hickson (1906-98), on front cover, as Miss Marple. Ex library with usual stamps, defects and library mess, in brown vinyl library binding. Some edge wear and chipping to top and bottom of jacket and spine, spine very slightly faded, some browning, soiling and spotting to page block, rear flap torn, not price clipped (£9.95), no personal inscriptions, internally tight, overall a reasonable copy for its age and ex library. 664pp. The BBC began filming the Miss Marple stories in the mid 1980s, and set out to remain faithful to the plotlines and locales of Agatha Christie's stories, and to represent Miss Marple as written. Hickson played the role in all 12 adaptations of the novels produced from 1984 to 1992, and received two BAFTA nominations for Best TV Actress, in 1987 and 1988. When the OBE was bestowed on Hickson in June 1987 Queen Elizabeth II was reported to have said 'You play the part just as one envisages it'.

Boards are near fine (having been well protected by the jacket) with a hint of pushing to corners and very minor pushing/rubbing to head/tail of spine. Pages are generally clean and the binding is tight. Top edge of pages dyed red. Pages slightly tanned. Very occasional small mark to pages. No other faults. Tail of jacket spine has loss of approx. 1/4" at both corners. Back corner has an adjacent 3/8" closed vertical tear with several adjacent diagonal creases of up 2 1/4" to the lower level; front corner at tail of spine has a 3/4" closed slightly diagonal tear and with several diagonal creases of up to 2 1/2" to the lower edge. Back fore-edge fold and spine folds are creased and scuffed, all with chips and small irregular closed and open tears. Upper and lower edges of back jacket panel and lower level of front panel have a number of chips, rubs, closed vertical tears of up to 3/4" and a number of creases.
