Inscription reads "Kay Francis from John Betjeman 1957", surrounded with decorative flourishes. The last of Betjeman and Piper's British travel guides to be published by Betjeman's own publisher, John Murray. The friends collaborated on a series of these guides from 1934 through to the 1960s, with a hiatus during World War II. In 1968 Betjeman quarrelled with the publishers over some derogatory remarks he wrote in the Northamptonshire guide and resigned.
