Hardcover. Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. 1st Edition. Scribner 2014, New York. Hard Cover. Book Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. Unstated first edition ("First Scribner hardcover edition February 2104"), first printing with a full number line starting at "1". 9-1/4" tall, 368 numbered pages includes "Further Reading" and "Photography"; plain black boards with black textured quarter binding, gilt lettering on spine; end pages have orange-on-white photograph of a crowd dwarfed by a huge portal with an equally giant statue near the archway; fore edge is trimmed. Book is new and pristine: it is square, binding perfectly clean, hinges tight, corners not bumped, no dings on edges, heel of spine lightly creased. The interior is also pristine: it is perfectly clean and free of writing (other than the author's), stray marks, stains or discolorations of any sort or paper damage of any type; paper is very lightly toned, very flexible and not at all brittle. Jacket is clean; no tears, folds or fading; no scratches or scrapes; raised letters of author's name and title on front panel evident (they have not been crushed); publisher's original price of "U.S. $27.99 / Can. $32.00" listed on the upper right corner of front flap. No remainder mark, no previous owner markings or inscriptions, not price clipped, not a book club edition, not a former library book. Signed in black ball point pen by author in the middle of title page, above her printed name, and dated ("3.5.14") below her printed name; done in my presence at Saint Louis County (Missouri) Library headquarters on March 5, 2014, after a 7 PM talk about her books, particularly "The Dovekeepers", a reading from parts of Chapter 1 of this book, and a question & answer session. An unusual and memorable pre-WW I immigrant tale & love story, complete with a Fagin-like father. Signed by Author(s). …
