The book's standard title page, printed in elaborate German type, is supplemented by an additional title page immediately following that is somewhat shortened in description, but has an elaborate border of weaving and material processing tools as well as a finished bolt of cloth in the lower left corner. 74 plates of weaving patterns, broken down into 7 sections. In this edition there was a binding error, two copies of Plate 37 were bound in, Plate 38 is missing. Scuffing and wear to covers, small losses at board corners, chipping and loss at base of spine, small wormhole to read cover at corner. Indications of an earlier spill along upper right corner of front board and text block that extends through very top of text block to Plate 16. An important and rare early treatise on weaving by master weaver Johann Michael Kirschbaum. August 1795 in Göttingen; 1. September 1870 in Leipzig) war ein deutscher Verleger und Politiker. Sein Pseudonym lautete Otto Friedrich Rammler. . (Er) verlegte . auch Publikationen aus den Reihen des Jungen Deutschlands. Nach dessen Verbot durch den Deutschen Bundestag 1835 setzte er sich für die Junghegelianer ein. In seinem Verlag erschien Literatur von Arnold Ruge und Ludwig Feuerbach, dessen Gesamtwerk er ab 1846 verlegte. Mit beiden unterhielt er enge freundschaftliche Beziehungen. Er nahm aber auch Max Stirners Buch Der Einzige und sein Eigentum in sein Programm, das die Junghegelianer und namentlich Feuerbach stark angriff. Wigand war Verleger der Hallischen Jahrbücher bzw. der Deutschen Jahrbücher für Wissenschaft und Kunst, der Jahrbücher der Medizin und des Geographisch-Statistischen Lexikons der Welt. 1841 ermöglichte er das Erscheinen von Johann Jacobys Vier Fragen beantwortet von einem Ostpreußen und gab 1845 von Friedrich Engels Die Lage der arbeitenden Klasse in England heraus. Von 1846 bis 1852 erschien bei ihm das 15-bändige Conversations-Lexicon für alle Stände. Oblong 4to. 10.5 x 8.25 in. 24 pp. With colour chromolithograph illustrations throughout, including 12 plates half- and full-page, & colour chromolith text sample illustrations in colour. Colour-printed softcovers, lettering in red & black, birds-eye view of factory on front cover (minor rubbing, minor soiling, edgewear, 1 small closed tear at foot of spine), still a VG bright copy. First edition of this particularly rare chromolithograph sample catalogue for the noted German Coir Rug weaving firm, Stevens & Schurholz. The company's rugs were woven from the husks of coconut shells, and proved to be an exceptionally durable fiber for heavily trafficked areas, with several depicted in this catalogue. These include churches, hotel entrance rugs, restaurants, dining room mats and rugs, outdoor portico and veranda rugs -- exceptional image here showing not only the sample rugs, but also an Aquarium fountain side table, along with machine factories, trains, gymnasiums, pools, and stables. The brilliantly coloured and displayed patterns incorporate geometric, pictorial, and simple solid colour patterns. These Coir rugs were often used in pools, bath houses, and onboard ships as they were mold resistant, and could be repeatedly cleaned. The company was founded in 1887 by Stevens & Schurholz as the Open Trading Company, later changed to Schurholz & Sohne after the Stevens family left the business, and continues to operate as the Linea Naturale company. Dating was arrived at not only through the particular sleeves for the women's fashions, as well as one image of German infantry soldiers wearing Chevaulegers Waffenrock uniforms, with the model of officer's caps used until about 1897. Vienna/Prague: Verlag der Schoenfeldschen Handlung, 1794. First edition of this vast, and extremely rare, illustrated survey on colouring and dying - with 4,608 different colour samples shown, each named and numbered: the work was intended for artists, portrait-painters, miniature-painters, craftsmen, and printers; it was an invaluable and practical guide for dyeing and colouring silk, wool, leather, fur, paper, wood, and more. The Wiener Farbenkabinet is a tremendous achievement in the graphic arts: each plate bears colour-specimens on 48 tipped on colour samples (55 x 7 mm) for which the exact formula (or ratio) for the creation of each colour specimen is given on the opposing page; these ratios are invaluable to any art historian or conservator. The presentation of the Wiener Farbenkabinet is alarmingly modern: the gradations and hues flow perfectly from upper left to lower right. We know of no early work on colour which is as useful and extensive as the Wiener Farbenkabinet. Of great rarity, with OCLC listing just 4 copies in America, at the Smithsonian, the National Gallery, Princeton and Yale, 6 other copies worldwide. Loose introductory text leaf in English, 62 single-page monochrome wallpaper samples, and 12 pages of "Clavier de Couleurs", each with 28 colour samples, and 2 cardboard screens in the pocket. Oblong folio, 285 x 220 mm., bound in original publisher's boards, in a new cloth folding box. [Basel]: Salubra, [1931]. Incredibly rare first edition of Le Corbusier's legendary Farbenklaviatur. Le Corbusier first sketched the premises of a logically structured system for color design in the magazine l'Esprit nouveau in 1921. In 1931 he published the first of the two collections of colours which he designed for the Salubra wallpaper company. In his own words, "These Keyboards of Colour aim at stimulating personal selection, by placing the task of choosing on a sound systematic basis. In my opinion they offer a method of approach which is accurate and effective, one which makes it possible to plan, in the modern home, colour harmonies which are definitely architectural and yet suited to the natural taste and needs of the individual." In this first collection, he organized the tones on 12 sample cards in such a manner that one could use a slider to isolate or combine different sets of three to five colours. Each of these cards contained a different chromatic atmosphere, intended to produce a particular spatial effect. Thus, Le Corbusier not only created a useful tool but also a kind of testament to the purist theory of colour. First three wallpaper samples with some minor chipping, but otherwise a remarkably well-preserved copy of what was a working tool, of which almost no copies have survived.
