First Printing with number (letter) line complete to 'A'. 4…to, sewn binding in blue cloth with gilt spine lettering and red foil stamped cat to front cover. Some trivial toning around the extremities, this copy remains uncommonly clean and fresh with crisp pages. The tust jacket shows some wear around the edges with a few short tears and creases, a few small scratches to the front, and abrasion to the head of the spine along the rear fold, otherwise clean and bright with price intact. Not a common book in the first edition but quite rarely seen signed. Their second book, The Napping House was a breakout hit for the married author/illustrator combo, going on to sell over 2 million copies as of 2015. Based on the strange napping habits of their first son, which Audrey Wood relates in an interview for the 20th Anniversary Edition: 'The Napping House was inspired by my young son?s unusual napping habits. Bruce was very active and, basically, from a very young age, refused to nap. We learned by trial and error that the only way we could get him to sleep was to walk him the two blocks to his granny?s house. Everything there was restful and calm, and granny (my mother) always loved to take an afternoon nap. She owned a fluffy dog, and when granny, the dog, and Bruce settled into her cozy bed, everyone was dreaming in minutes. This became a daily ritual, and we began to refer to my mother?s home as 'the napping house.' That?s how the book was born.'. Signed.
