The second of only four published issues of this short-lived, large format black literary/culture magazine that also included contributions from white writers (issue one featured Kenneth Rexroth and John Ciardi; this issue, Paul Good). Notable contributions to this issue include articles by James Baldwin ("On the Negro Actor"), Louis E. Lomax ("The Act and Art of Being a Negro") and Paul Good ("The Cocktail Party and Dr. Bunche"); a reprint of Langston Hughes' story, "A Good Job Done," which was originally published in Esquire in 1935; a fashion section on the "very urban" new Spring look; a photo-documented profile of Nigeria and of Tai Solarin, founder of the Mayflower School at Ikenne, with drawings by Elton Fax (in 1963, Fax toured Nigeria with jazz musician Randy Weston sponsored by the American Society of African Culture); jazz and classical music reviews, including one by renowned novelist John O. Killens ("The Negro as Music Maker"); etc. Stapled, photo-illustrated wrappers (ca. 14" x 11"), 36 p., illus. Rubbing and creasing to wrappers; corners torn off both the top front wrapper and the bottom rear wrapper and pgs 35-36 (barely affecting an advert); a photograph was clipped from pgs. 29-30 affecting some of the music reviews. A good, mostly complete copy of a scarce issue.
