Michael Mann is distinguished professor of atmospheric science at Penn State. In 2019, he received the Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement, often called the "Nobel Prize for the Environment." His previous book "The Hockey Stick and the Climate Wars" described his key part in developing the famous "hockey stick" graph that showed a radical rise in temperature over the last 100 years--and the non-scientific controversy it ignited when it was featured in the 2001 IPCC report.
