William Wye Smith (1827-1917) was born in Scotland and his family emigrated to Canada when he was young. He became a recognised expert on the Scots language, and his rendering of the New Testament in Braid Scots was first published in 1901. The book is bound in the original maroon cloth covered boards with rounded corners and gold titling on the spine and front board. The case of the book is in good to very good condition with some shelf wear to the boards and to the spine ends. The top and fore edge are red. Previous owner's name to half title page.
