Condition: Good. Original B&W lithograph on wove paper. 17 × 11.5 inches. Good. Minor spots of foxing across the sheet, heavy foxing in the upper and lower margins. Slight edge wear and minor creases. Mild discoloration/staining near the top left corner. Typical toning with age. Signed in the plate with the initials HB. This 1839 illustration criticizes the stalemate and indecision within Parliament surrounding reform legislation likely the Reform Act or a related policy in the late 1830s. The phrase "Can't get out" parodies the idea that once entangled in the complex web of party politics, it's difficult for a minister to escape or act freely. John Doyle, known by the pen name H. B., was an Irish political cartoonist, caricaturist, painter and lithographer.
