First edition. First edition. 8 illustrations engraved by Crump, Bonfield (torn), Howland, Edmonds and others. One other plate is signed with a monograph of a large "S" with an "H" in the upper curve and an "L" in the lower. 8vo. With a gift inscription to "Mr. & Mrs. S. R. Van Nest from their daughter Anna, Christmas 1858" Original plum cloth, upper cover with center decoration of a young lady in gilt within a blind floral frame, lower cover with frame only, spine lettered and decorated in gilt. Some fading and rubbing of cloth, head of spine torn, lower innerhinge starting, waterstain in lower margins and fore-edges, light browning 8 illustrations engraved by Crump, Bonfield (torn), Howland, Edmonds and others. One other plate is signed with a monograph of a large "S" with an "H" in the upper curve and an "L" in the lower. 8vo. Signed.
