The piece is a preliminary cover drawing for the book âCarrot Noseâ. SIGNED by Garth Williams lower left in full signatureÂâGarth Williamsâ, the drawing depicts the deer, who later in the final rendition is shown as swimming through the river with Carrot Nose holding onto the antlers (if you look carefully in this drawing the river water is behind the deer and his head is half submerged). In the drawing offered here, Garth Williams draws the deer in exquisite detail. Few preliminaries we have handled are ever drawn in pen, with this piece being one of the largest.
