The author offers a practical guidance on fire management and fire extinction. Some of his ideas are simple and pretty mundane - wet cloths, wet straw, earth and so forth. Others are more controversial such as the use of gunpowder balls to blow the fire out by violent explosions.

Young recommends that if no water is available to extinguish a fire, it should be smothered with any suitable material; also that a fire can be put out by removing its fuel, and that it can be blown out using gunpowder. He also recommends splitting a large fire into several smaller ones. At the end he gives a course of action to be taken in the event of a fire.
