Sir John Sinclair (1754 - 1835) was a Scottish writer, famous… for his survey of Scottish life, the "Statistical Account of Scotland", published between 1791 and 1799. In this volume, Sinclair describes some of the words and phrases of the Scots language (which he calls a "dialect") and their derivations (e.g. from Latin, Belgic, Saxon etc). He also touches on language usage in London and other parts of England. Condition: Very Good modern binding with a Very Good text block. Scarce. Presention copy from the author. Book.
