Rare. | [ENGLISH DESCRIPTION FOLLOWS] First edition of the first major study on the sculptor Jean Goujon (c. 1515 - c. 1568) who played a key role in the French School of sculpture. Bottle-green Bradel half paper over marbled paper boards, spine with gilt fillets, navy blue shagreen title piece, edges of covers rubbed. With 85 hors texte engravings, of which 3 double page, accompanied by an explicatory text on each of the monuments for which Goujon provided sculptures. With an essay on the life and works of Jean Goujon at end. A little scattered spotting affecting both text and plates. Rare. *.
