Oktoich ist eine liturgische, in 8 Hymnen, nach dem 8-tonigen byzantinischen Notensystem, unterteilte Liedersammlung byzantinischen Ursprungs die auch in der russisch-orthodoxen Kirche verwendet wurde. Bei den sogenannten "Krjuki" (auch "Kriuki"; "Häckchen") handelt es sich um Notenzeichen für den altrussischen Kirchengesang. Die Verwendung der Krjuki-Notation ist bereits seit dem 11. Jahrhundert dokumentiert, sie wurde bis zur Reform des Patriarchen Nikon (1605-1681) und der Abspaltung der "Altgläubigen" für liturgische Gesänge der russischen Orthodoxie verwendet. Durch die 1652 initiierte Reform unter Patriarch Nikon setzte man schließlich das westliche 5-Linien-System für den Kirchengesang fest. Es bildeten sich in den folgenden Jahren zahlreiche kleinere Gemeinschaften, die die Reformen nicht anerkannten und den alten Ritus beibehalten wollten. Ihr Ausschluss und die Belegung mit einem Anathema führten mit der Synode von 1666/67 zum Schisma zwischen der russischen Orthodoxie und den russischen Altgläubigen. Die vorliegende musik- wie kirchenhistorisch interessante Handschrift dokumentiert die Praxis und Tradierung des alten russischen Kirchengesangs bei den Altgläubigen. Gewicht in Gramm: 7000.
