Hier lagen - archäologisch noch unerforscht - ihre Hauptstädte Urkes, Wassukana und Ta'idi. Aus zeitgenössischen Schriftquellen lässt sich die überragende Stellung der Hurriter in der gesamtkulturellen Entwicklung des Alten Orients wohl in Umrissen nachzeichnen - ihre eigenen Quellen jedoch entziehen sich noch weitgehend unserem Verständnis, ihre materielle Hinterlassenschaft ist so gut wie unbekannt. Ein mittelassyrisches Itinerar lässt uns nun mit grösserer Wahrscheinlichkeit die Lage von Ta'idi - der späten Hauptstadt des hurrischen Mittani-Reiches - bestimmen: Tall al-Hamidiya am Gaggag, im Schnittpunkt der beiden grossen Handelsstrassen gelegen, die im 3. und 2. Jahrtausend durch das Habrrgebiet geführt haben. Ein ausführlicher Survey im Frühjahr 1984 wies diesen Tall als ideale Grabungsstelle aus: die uns interessierende hurrische Schicht liegt unmittelbar unter der Oberfläche und konzentriert sich im Bereich der Zitadelle auf einen geschlossenen Gebäudekomplex von 300 x 300 m. Der vorliegende Band führt in zwei Kapiteln zunächst in die Geschichte sowie in die topographischen Gegebenheiten des Haburgebietes ein; ein zweiter Teil ist den Ausgrabungsergebnissen der Sommerkampagne 1984 gewidmet. First edition. - Correspondence between the Oratorian Jean Morin (1591-1659) and Cardinal Barberini (and others) regarding the project of Pope Urban VIII to unite all schismatic churches of the…orient with the Roman church, in which the learned orientalist Morin was instrumental. As such, this constitutes an early and important attempt to systematically address the relations between the Rome and the Christian communities established in Lebanon, Syria and in the rest of the Middle East, containing valuable observations on the Druze, Copt, and other local religious communities. Several portions printed in Greek, Hebrew, Arabic, and Syriac characters. The editor, R. Simon (1638-1712), has prefixed a Life of Morin which "amounts to a diatribe against not only Morin, but the entire Oratorian Congregation" (cf. Wetzer/W.). - From the library of the French statesman Michel III Le Tellier, marquis de Barbezieux (1603-85), minister of state after Mazarin, Chancellor and Keeper of the Seals of France. It was he who counter-signed (with Louis XIV) the Edict of Fontainebleau, revoking the Edict of Nantes and driving the Huguenots from France; he died but a week later. - ESTC R5020. Beautiful engraving of two varieties of narcissus bulb with shooting leaves. The two plants are side by side on the page and the captions elegantly inscribed. Emanuel Sweert was prefect of the gardens of the Emperor Rudolf II in Prague. His Florilegium was first printed in Frankfurt by Kempner in 1612 -1614. It was originally a…sales catalogue for plants and bulbs from Sweert's gardens, to be sold at fairs in Frankfurt and Amsterdam, but now these very attractive engravings are regarded as fine examples of 17th century botanical illustration and are much collected. Engraved by JANSSON, Jan. Copper engraving. Fine condition, good margins. Later colour. Size: 21 x 33.5 cm. (8½ x 13 inches).

L'on ne sait rien de l'auteur, mais l'éditeur, Wolfgang Gundling (1637-1689) était un célèbre prédicateur réformé de Nuremberg. Il s'intéressa dans plusieurs écrits au christianisme de l'Orient.
