One of a small edition (edition size not stated), this copy being an artist's proof with hand written in pencil by the artist beneath the image left 'Artist's proof', centre 'Sunburs't and beneath image right, 'John MacKechnie 79'. Etching of sunlight coming through the glass roof of the Copula, Kibble Palace, Glasgow, printed predominantly in blues and greens on fine art paper. Image size: 36cm x 28cm; sheet size 68cm x 53cm. Unframed. Fine condition. Note: John Mackechnie graduated from Glasgow School of Art. He has worked at the Glasgow Print Studio since the late 1970s and in January 1983 became Director. Mackechnie has always embraced technology and photography in printmaking and pioneered the development of multi-plate colour etching which he also taught and encouraged amongst other printmakers, developing what became known as Etching-Glasgow Style. Since 1999 his main medium has been screenprinting. His works have been acquired by many major public and private collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; GOMA, Glasgow; and the V&A, London. Signed by Author(s).

Note: In January 1992 Byrne began a series of explorations of the angel theme, notably 'Coy Angel', 1992 etching (GLAPS 2008. 166 AND 167), and 'Thoughtful Angel', 1992, etching (GLAPS 2008. 174).'Pink Angel' was the only etching to be issued in an edition. Other variations on the theme are:'Angel Blue and Gold', 'Blue Angel', 'Le Angle d'or' and 'Starry-Eyed Angel'. Some artist's proofs of 'Pink Angel' were pulled in 2009. Princeton University Art Museum has a copy of this etching which is described as a "faithful copy after an oil sketch originally painted on wood by Rubens between 1613 and 1615, depicting an unknown man of African descent expressing various emotions." [ see art museum at Princeton collections- objects/9044] Condition: Very good overall condition except for slight chip and tape remnant in upper left corner and very slight tear on upper margin, tape remnant on right margin, some sunning likely from previous frame.

In Very Good condition with light age toning. Mat with minor edge wear and a faint smudge at the upper right. Shelved at Rockville Room J. Arun Bose (1934-2007) was an influential Indian-American printmaker, educator, and innovator in etching and mixed intaglio processes. His works often blend Eastern philosophical symbols with Western compositional structure, creating a visual language that is at once enigmatic and architectural. His limited-edition etchings are held in numerous public and private collections, including the Brooklyn Museum and the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi. 1407385. The etching is in Very Good condition with Good plus frame. The frame shows light scuffing to glass and moderate bumping and scratching to edges and corners of frame.
