Pictorial Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Light general wear to boards plus a tiny (5mm) tear to bottom rear corner. Internally clean. Binding tight. 75pp Inscribed by 'George' (Morant) to a friend George Morant is the quintessential rebel artist, whose work sharply satirizes Australian politics and history in the startling colors of the continent's landscape. Outsider Artists live on the margins of the art community, but they are not failed insiders or "wannabes". They are determined individualists, who paint with passionate intensity and honesty about the world they know, and they care nothing for the commercial art market and gallery system. Author Michael Richards explores Outsider Art through the work and philosophy of an extraordinary Australian painter, George Morant, a self-taught artist who began painting while mining opal at Lightning Ridge in outback New South Wales in the 1960s. Size: 190mm x 255mm. Inscribed By Artist. Book.

Medium: Ink Two original ink drawings on both sides of the same paper measuring approximately 6 7/8 x 3 1/2 inches by American artist Paul O. Zelusky. Please see Mr. Zelinsky's biography below. Birth announcement obtained with this and other artworks and for reference only. Thanks for looking. Paul O. Zelinsky American children's illustrator and writer Paul O. Zelinsky (born 1953) is an American illustrator and writer best known for illustrating children's picture books. He won the 1998 Caldecott Medal for U.S. picture book illustration, recognizing Rapunzel. His most popular work is The Wheels on the Bus, a best-selling movable book. Zelinsky had been one Caldecott runner-up in 1985, 1987, and 1995, the latter for Swamp Angel by Anne Isaacs (Dutton, 1994). Twenty years later they were joint runners-up for the Phoenix Picture Book Award from the Children's Literature Association, which annually recognizes the best picture book that did not win a major award 20 years earlier. "Books are considered not only for the quality of their illustrations, but for the way pictures and text work together." Early life Paul O. Zelinsky was born in Evanston, Illinois, and he grew up in Wilmette. As a child he spent much of his time drawing. Often with his friends he would make up imaginary worlds and draw them. When he was only four, he submitted work to Highlights magazine, and his artwork was first showcased. Some of his influential childhood book favorites included The Color Kittens and The Tawny Scrawny Lion. Zelinsky said in reference to memories of what he had read, "Feelings come to me as a sort of flavor. I know that when I call up my earliest memories, what I remember seeing and hearing is accompanied by a flavor-like sense of what it felt like to be there and see that."[citation needed] In later years of his youth, his favorite authors were William P??ne du Bois and Robert Lawson. He especially loved the books The Twenty-One Balloons, by du Bois, and The Fantastic Flight.[who?] Career At New Trier High School, Zelinsky was interested in natural history as well as architecture and saw himself following one of those paths for a career. However, he went to study at Yale. He took a class taught by Maurice Sendak on the history and art of children's books, and it inspired him to a career in the area. Zelinsky went to graduate school at the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia and Rome. The Renaissance and Italian art always fascinated him, and this time in his life influenced this love as well. His career in children's books began in 1978 with the illustrations for Avi's Emily Upham's Revenge. Since then he has continued to illustrate others' work as well as creating his own books. He won the 1998 Caldecott Medal for his illustrated retelling of Rapunzel and three Caldecott honors (for Hansel and Gretel (1985), Rumpelstiltskin (1987), and Swamp Angel (1995)). His most popular book is The Wheels on the Bus, which has sold millions.[citation needed] Artistic style Zelinsky does not have a recognizable style, suiting his artwork and techniques to the particular nature of the book to be illustrated. According to Linnea Lannon in a Detroit Free Press profile of the artist[citation needed] "what has raised Zelinsky into the first rank of children's book illustrators is not just the pictures but the way they integrate with text." Zelinsky says, "I want the pictures to speak in the same voice as the words. This desire has led me to try various kinds of drawings in different books. I have used quite a wide stretch of styles, and I'm fortunate to have been asked to illustrate such a range of stories."[2] The Wheels on the Bus and Knick-Knack Paddywhack! are engineered books with moving parts.[clarification needed] Books As writer and illustrator The Lion and the Stoat (Greenwillow Books, 1984) ?? based in part on natural history by Pliny the Elder LCCN 83-16326 Knick-Knack Paddywhack!, paper engineer Andrew Baron (Dutton, 2002) ?? adapted from the nursery rhyme "This Old Man" "A moving parts book adapted from the counting song"??Cover OCLC 865205168 The Wheels on the Bus, paper engineer Rodger Smith (Dutton, 1990) ?? adapted from the children's folk song OCLC 22582572 "A book with parts that move"??Cover OCLC 850027738 The Maid and the Mouse and the Odd-Shaped House: a story in rhyme (1981) ?? adapted from a school exercise Rapunzel, retold (1997) ?? from the Brothers Grimm (1812) Rumpelstiltskin, retold (1986) ?? [Likely Indianapolis, Indiana, c.1980s]. Painted pressed steel record recording box with hinged lid, hinged drop-down front, plastic handle and metal clasp lock. 8¾ x 7½ x 7½ inches. Interior with metal dividers including two that are hinged. All interior and exterior surfaces, except bottom, hand painted in bright colors and with applied golden metallic glitter highlights. Signed by the artist, "Jim M." on the top. Very good. This self-work was created by an Indiana union ironworker. It is a highly personal statement of with themes of labor, God, music, motor engines, fear, sex, and drugs. On the box's front panel, a work scene with a crane lifting an I-beam is shown with words identifying the artist by his labor union membership number and Indianapolis union affiliation: "Union 1105046 Ironworker 22#." Vignettes on the side and rear panels show a John Deere tractor in a corn field, an undersea fantasy, and a "Kodack Pentech" [Kodak Pentax?] camera with the name "Jim" on the lens. The top of the box depicts a guitar and a jet airplane and text: "$200.00 Cash! Wayne Newton Roy Clark Music 24hr. Sunnydale Travle [sic] American Trans Air Brenson [sic]." This likely refers to Branson, Missouri where Country Music musician Roy Clark opened a theater in 1983 for himself and the likes of Wayne Newton to perform. On the base of the guitar, the artist signed his work "Jim M." The inside of the box's cover shows a night scene along interstate highway I-70. This highway passes through Indianapolis, and intersects in Missouri with the main road leading south to Branson. Based on this reference to I-70, and to the reference to Ironworkers Union Local 22, which is based in Indianapolis, Indiana, Jim likely lived and worked nearby. Another interior scene shows a go-kart racing under a moon-lit sky. The box's interior has themes of religious piety, sex, alcohol, and drugs. An image of a sparkling golden cross is surrounded by hell-fires and burning and by a large marijuana or cannabis leaf. Painted words read "Christ God Jesus Jim Church Fear Sex Pot Booze Cani[b]iss [sic]" Jim's and Jesus' names intersect and share the letter "J." An intriguing self-work, an autobiographical folk art box, a painted "self-portrait" of an imaginative Midwestern ironworker.

Bracken Lee and an OK one on the Johnson [sic] Army Utah war." 1 four-page letter. 1 three-page letter. Page 2 of a two-page letter. 17 slides depicting various projects by the artist, including stoneware, collage, and ink on wood. Annotations by Bob Moss in the borders. 7 color photographs [4 x 6"] showcasing Bob Moss's unique creations. Three of the photographs show the artist displaying his work. Folk artist/musician Bob Moss (1953-2011) was born in Logan, Utah. He is most known for his wood-burned pieces that often featured the Deseret Alphabet, Brigham Young's unique phonetic Mormon language. Bob Moss did his first work in the Deseret Alphabet in 1989 for Joe Stetich's "Hatu Teresed." On his website, Bob points out that he has always emphasized his musical side. He has 5 cds out under his own name, another one produced as a group, and a sixth cd titled "Bob Moss Plays Frank Sinatra on his Five-String Banjo." The letters, full of personality and humor, consist entirely of Bob's unique musings and his honest views of life, as well as his art. When one reads these letters, one gets a small glimpse of the way in which Bob lived his life. According to his sister, Linda Hill, "Bob showed you what he chose to show. He lived on the fringe of polite society, and he was fiercely independent and true to himself." (The Salt Lake Tribune) In a letter to Patrick he writes, "I work pretty hard. Frankly Im [sic] totaly [sic] exhausted a lot. Still when I get home I make myself work on art. I'm trying to finish the color backboard to a woodburnt cut out beehive. But mostly Ive [sic] just been doing words. I figure some people might dig the Deseret Alphabet and would rather have lots of that. But its also somrthing I can manage to do when I'm Dog Tired." In another letter he muses, "My stuff is kind of goofy maybe. Ive [sic] met almost no one who shares any of my interest. Anyone elses [sic] interests are as valid as mine. But I have my path & I intend to keep on following it." Moss's obituary, published in "The Deseret News' closed with this poignant wish: "Instead of flowers, remember that the art of happiness is to serve all, and lend a helping hand to someone in need, or send a hand-written letter to someone you love." His artwork rests in the hands of his family, friends, and fans.
