[Un] Grabado xilográfico perteneciente a la obra titulada "La Ilustración Española y Americana", revista fundada en 1869 por Abelardo de Carlos, que fue sin lugar a dudas, la publicación más importante de la segunda mitad del siglo XIX español, y la componen 65 tomos. Editada en Madrid entre 1869 y 1921, la… revista aparecía semanalmente, con articulos de los escritores más prestigiosos, e ilustrada por algunos de los artistas más relevantes del momento. Hasta principios del año 1900, las ilustraciones se estampaban con grabados en madera o Xilografías. Algunas estampas de gran tamaño se regalaban a los suscriptores y son muy buscadas y difíciles de encontrar. En algunas ocasiones, recientemente, se han iluminado a mano con acuarela y reforzado con cartulina, para su uso decorativo. Entre los coleccionistas se ha extendido la afición de recopilar las ilustraciones estampadas de sus temas o lugares de interés. Se caracterizó además por la profusión de ilustraciones representando variados aspectos de la vida cotidiana de España y de los países hispanoamericanos, donde también tuvo difusión. Esta revista seguía el modelo de prestigiosas publicaciones europeas como L'Illustration o Le Monde Illustré, Illustrierte Zeitung o La Illustrazione Italiana, y en su cabecera se presentaba como «Periódico de ciencias, artes, literatura, industria y conocimientos útiles». __________________ [One] xylographic print belonging to "La Ilustración Española y Americana",magazine founded in 1869 by Abelardo de Carlos and published between the years 1869 and 1921 in Madrid.
