His second novel, the story of a young American expatriate in Paris just after World War II, a novel which perhaps takes on more significance in light of Matthiessen's recent admissions to having been employed by the CIA while he was in Paris himself during those years. 178 pp. Very good in a fair dust jacket. (ghost of a tape mark on rear endpaper, minor shelfwear, some chipping to the dj, loss of about 1/4 inch at the ends of the spine, usual sunning to the small title block on the spine, original price of $3.00 still present.) Overall, a reasonably attractive copy of a rather hard to find book.
