A notable folklore Association Copy, SIGNED AND INSCRIBED BY AUTHOR on title page - "To Stith Thompson - "Hop, skip, down the wilderness" BA Botkin 6/30/37". Botkin is best remembered for his "A Treasury of American Folklore" and for his government positions at the Federal Writers' Project, Joint Committee on Folk Arts of the Works Progress Administration and as chief editor of the Writers' Unit of the Library of Congress Project. Stith Thompson is best known for his work on the classification of motifs in folk tales. His six-volume "Motif-Index of Folk-Literature "(1955-1958) is considered the international key to traditional material. The book is Good only, mostly because of wrappers- old tape mends at spine, 1/3 approx. of rear wrapper torn and missing, label taped at spine and stamped "Folklore Institute Reading Collection" title page. Contents are clean, tight, and unmarked. A SCARCE thesis, and 1st book for this noted folklorist. SIGNED AND INSCRIBED BY AUTHOR.
