Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Playwright Jerome Lawrence's brilliant biography of the renowned actor, Paul Muni, which was heralded as "the greatest theatre biography of the (20th) century". Muni first made a name for himself as a boy in Yiddish theatre, where his parents were actors, before moving to the Broadway stage in 1926 and then to films in 1929. He was nominated six times for the Best Actor Academy Award and won once for The Story of Louis Pasteur. This is a Near-Fine first printing of the first edition and is *SIGNED* by Lawrence on the title page without inscription. The book is square and solid. Clean and unmarked (save for the autograph) on the inside. No bumped corners or rub wear to the edges. There is a tiny bit of faint soiling on the outer page edges on the bottom of the book, on the lower edges of the covers and spine, and on one quarter-inch patch of the spine itself. The dust jacket is price-clipped and has a few closed edge tears, the longest of which is about 1/4". The white portions have tanned a little and there is a little rub wear on the spine. The front and spine are very clean but the back panel has a few little spots and very light soiling. A lovely *SIGNED* first edition of a scarce and desirable title that any theatre buff would love. Will be bubble-wrapped and shipped in a box. Signed by Author(s).
