Hardcover. Condition: Good. Two Volume Box Set of Thomas Hobbes' 1629 'Eight Books of the Peloponnese Warre'. Both Volumes: No markings, annotations, or inscriptions (indeed, internally fine SAVE FOR a lateral closed tear through the text of pp.xi/xii of Volume One, and with some trifling (very) short closed tears to the fore edges of a few pages in Volume Two). The boards are clean and secure, with no conspicuous damage, BUT with toning/handling to the spines and visible rubbing to the titling. The slipcase remains tight and square, but shows heavy rubbing to the corners and some general light ageing. Thus: a good set, unmarked throughout, but with the slipcase and the spines showing both usage and age. Edited and with a Preface on "Hobbes' Translation of Thucydides" by David Grene. Introduction by Bertrand De Jouvenal. Volume One: xx, 307pp; Volume Two: pp.311-590pp.
