PETIT, relieur renommé), dos à 5 nerfs et 5 caissons ornés (plus un 6 ème consacré à l'auteur et au titre), charnières à la Bradel, tranche supérieure dorée, très grand papier vélin.Les deux ouvrages ont été publiés ensemble et sont ainsi qualifiés par BRUNET: "Belle édition qui fait partie de la collection des Classiques français publiés par Lefèvre". -LES LETTRES, qui s'ouvrent sur trois frontispices en noir (des portraits de PASCAL) comptent 488 pagesdont les 23 premières pages consistent en un Essai sur le style de PASCAL écrit par François de Neufchateau (1750-1828), grand homme politique et écrivain de son temps. -LES PENSÉES, s'ouvrent elles, sur 4 frontispices (trois nouveaux portraits de PASCAL et une image du CHRIST). Elles comptent 500 pages dont une Préface (pp 1-22) et une Table analytique des PENSEES (pp.443-497 suivie d'une Table des matières. Une "très belle édition", comme dit BRUNET, avec deux volumes élégamment reliés (R. PETIT) en TRES BON ETAT.

Albert Gleizes (illustrator). Gleizes' suite of 15 large "eaux-fortes préparatoires" (Loyer 6-20) for Pascal's "Pensées sur l'homme et Dieu", the last great Cubist book. One of only 45 such suites, all printed on extremely fine Montval laid paper. Folio. Loose as issued in the original folder. FINE AND BRIGHT, WITH NO DEFECTS. Gleizes' most important work as a printmaker. Rare.

Superbe reliure en maroquin rouge doublé du XIXème, triple filet doré sur les plats, dos à 5 nerfs orné de caissons dorés aux petits fers, date de 1670, double filet sur les coupes, doublure de maroquin bleu ornée d'un encadrement doré, gardes et doubles garde de papier marbré, filet doré sur les coiffes, tranches dorées. Reliure signée de Thibaron-Joly. (infime tâche sombre au Ier plat) Edition originale posthume, publiée par les soins d'Artus Gouffier, duc de Roanez. Exemplaire à la date de 1670 (achevé daté du 2 janvier 1670), avec toutes les pièces liminaires et tous les cartons décrits par Le Petit, et avec une variante d'accentuation par rapport au titre reproduit par Tchémerzine. Seuls 2 exemplaires existent à la date de 1669 (B.N. et Troyes) mais ils ne comportent pas les pièces liminaires. Les corrections signalées par l'errata (au verso du privilège) ont été anciennement reportées dans le texte. Petite vignette gravée sur cuivre p. 1, quelques fleurons typographiques. Magnifique exemplaire dans une charmante reliure signée de Thibaron-Joly, provenant des bibliothèques Pierre Bergé, avec son ex-libris (V, 16 déc. 2020, n° 1172) ; P.F. Celui-ci, un des précieux 30 exemplaires sur Chine (no. 17). Reliure janséniste en maroquin rouge signée par les célèbres relieurs Chambolle-Duru. Dos à cinq nerfs avec titre en capitales dorées. Deux fillets dorés aux coupes. En encadrement intérieur, large frise composée d'une dentelle végétale, des trois filets, d'un pointillé et enfin d'une complexe dentelle volutes serrées. Toutes tranches dorées. Gardes recouvertes de papier marbré. Dos légèrement insolé. Très bel exemplaire conservés dans sa sobre mais prestigieuse reliure signée.
