Penciled notes in the introduction in an unknown hand, and it appears the the translator has made several small textual changes in ink as well as adding four lines in manuscript at tone place. Briefly Inscribed by S?hajkovi? on the title page. Uncommon.

Tipped in at the front free endpaper is a 8 line handwritten note on Knebworth House, Stevenage note paper, dated Oct. 27th, 1886. It reads: "My dear Sir,/ In reply to your letter of the 24th Sept, I beg to place at your servicefor publication in the Independent, if you desire it, the enclosed poem;which thought writen 18 years ago, has never been published./ Yours truly/ Lytton". The note is clear and bright, shallow fold along one edge so as to fit within the boards of the book. The book itself is tight, internally clean with some occasional light foxing. The boards are faded to a light tan with the gilt title stamping to the front cover faint, shallow wear at the spine extremities. The main piece appearing here is "The Battle of Kosovo" followed by a collection of shorter "Popular Or Domestic Pesmas".
