The work has been beautifully illustrated with elegant engraved plates on costumes and professions. The plates show a woman from the Auvergne, a female street sweeper, a seamstress, a dress seller, a soldier, and a knife-grinder. The work is part of a series of educational children's books on a wide variety of different topics, published by Marcilly in Paris during the first half of the 19th century, and includes works as Le petit florian, Le petit dessinateur, and Le petit daguerrotype. The spine is rubbed and partly detached, the edges and corners of the boards are slightly scuffed. The leaves are somewhat foxed. The slipcase is somewhat rubbed. Otherwise in good condition.l Gumuchian 4122; Welsh, A bibl. of miniature books 5561; cf. Bondy, Miniature books, p. 76.
