Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. This NF quality first edition book was published in 1956 by Grosset & Dunlap. It is 7-5/8" tall and has 214 numbered pages of text; it is the blue tweed cover of format #1, as per Mattson & Davis's bibliography (Grosset & Dunlap; 7-5/8"; textured composition binding, medium blue with dark blue lettering; plain front except for dark blue illustration of Tom Swift, Jr.'s head in upper right area of front cover, superimposed over a blueprint; pictorial end pages in shades of blue on white, depicting Tom at the window of his flying lab; frontis +8 to +11 full or partial page illustration, all on plain paper. White coated paper dust jacket, pictorial, in colors, different scene for each title; illustration covers front & spine panels; spine contains series logo of Tom's head superimposed over a blueprint with black rectangle below containing "The New Tom Swift Adventures" and the title number enclosed in a white or gray diamond). This book is square, very clean, free of corner bumps and edge dings; the heel of the spine is also lightly bumped. The bottom edges and corners have a small amount of wear. It has none of the fading around the edges that is fairly typical of this series. Except for a very colorful book plate on the FFEP, the interior is completely free of writing, stray marks, stains of any sort and page damage of any type. Both hinges are very strong and not damaged. The frontis and other illustrations are intact. The paper is quite flexible. The book lists only the first 9 Swift Jr. titles on the back of the half-title page; there is no other list in the book. Except for the book plate, this book could almost pass for new. This VG- quality jacket is very clean and the colors on the front panel and spine are not damaged or faded. It has tiny chips at the front corners and also at the heel of the spine; the head of the spine has several small chips with folds; and there is a 1/2" tear at the top of the front panel. This jacket is not price-clipped. There is no tape on this jacket. The rear panel advertises the last book in the Tom Corbett series. The rear flap lists the Hardy Boys titles through the 1956 title. The jacket has no Swift, Jr. list.

Inside of front cover has "Phantom No 33" in ink and a small clipping of the phantom pasted in by previous owner, and a star design rubber stamp. A couple of rubber stamps on rear cover: "R D" on inside of rear cover, and a small decorative stamp on the outside of the rear cover above the publisher's imprint. Moderate foxing. ; Early New Zealand edition of "The Phantom" comic. 20 pages including covers. Cover in portrait format, while the contents are in landscape format. Page dimensions: 250 x 188mm.
