Hardcover. Condition: Fair. Fifty-five volumes, complete. Including numerous maps, portraits, and other illustrations. The history is contained within the first 52 volumes, the bibliography in volume 53, and the index across two volumes (54-55). Edited and annotated by Blair and Robertson, with historical introduction and additional notes by Bourne. A classic work of Philippine history. Originally published during the years 1903-1909, this is the second edition of a limited number (300 sets). This reissue was undertaken by Domingo Abella because so few copies existed in the Philippines after the war. Ex-library with expected stamps to textblock edges and front matter of each volume. Green cloth with gilt spine titling; panels lightly or moderately toned, with all spines severely sunned to beige. Light edgewear generally; heavier at extremities, with many spine ends fraying. Soiling to spines of volumes 2, 8, 11-12, 24, and 45; staining to volume 24 also affects interior, with light liquid damage to top margin of the pages throughout; volume 36 has more generalized exterior staining to cloth, and liquid damage including foxing to the last few pages of interior. Tiny puncture to center spine of volume 30. Bindings range from sound to delicate. Binding of volume one cracked at page 25. Volumes two and three have loosening signatures, with some (but not all) of the exposed threads snapped and the signatures beginning to pull, but holding (volume two, pages 53-72 and 175-196; volume three, pages 157-176). Binding of volume five is shaken, but intact. There is a loose plate in volume seven (p. 187), still present and laid-in. Front hinge starting at volume 33; front inner hinge cracked at volume 35; and several volumes have repaired interior hinges with fresh endsheets, including volumes 13, 15, 34, 39, and 49. Despite several instances of loosening or delicate bindings, the set is complete with no missing pages. There is an envelope adhered at FFEP of volume one, with publication information inside. Very, very scarce marginal notation; no interlinear markings. This copy was presented to the Philippine Studies Program at the University of Chicago by the International Association of Historians of Asia and signed by Domingo Abella. Signed.
