Hardcover. Condition: Very good. First Edition. Inscribed and dated by the author on the half-title. "This interesting translation of the first seven books of the Old Testament into hexameter verse is, up to the present time, inaccessible in any one work, having undergone a strange history in its fragmentary publication" (James Taft Hatfield, The American Journal of Philology, Volume 11, Issue 1 - January 1, 1890). Mayor (1825-1910) was librarian of the University of Cambridge, and in 1872 succeeded H.A.J. Munro in the professorship of Latin, which he held for 28 years. Octavo: lxxiv, 268 p. Original brown cloth binding, with gilt and black stamping. Partially uncut. Some general edgewear to the boards; otherwise very good.
