Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 2 volume set in red boards with gilt lettering and illustration to the spine. These are in fine condition and the volumes are well bound with TEG. Untrimmed edges which have minor soiling/foxing but with the contents fine but with very slight foxing. All colour steel plates present and also fine. However the large publishers list to the rear of volume II has been torn away; that of volume I is present as normal. Cloth slightly rubbed and a couple of instances of wear at head of backstrip. A very good set. Each volume has a hand-coloured frontispiece. A most attractive set.

Illustrated with a total of 48 (of 72 in the complete set) hand-colored, steel engraved plates (suitable for framing), each with a tissue guard. 40 are by John Leech and 8 by Harlot K. Browne. All the hand-colored plates are bright and clean. Plus there are approximately 240 text woodcuts by Leech, Browne and W. T. Maud. Plus approximately 120 illustrated ads bound in at rear of 5 of the 6 volumes The six volumes, printed at the Whitefriars Press, are uniformly bound in red cloth with elaborately gilt decorated spines. T.e.g. Spines are somewhat darkened and with very minor fraying at extremities.

Rubbing to the edges of the leatherMarble endpapers. The rear endpapers of "Plain" show ghosting of some letters. Color frontispieces as well as additional vignettes and full page illustrations throughout. Previous owner's bookplate on front fixed endpaepr of "Cross". Front hinges of some of the volumes starting to crack.

Color frontispieces in excellent condition. All hinges in excellent condition except for the Handley Cross, which has 2" where spine is separating from the front and back boards. Overall a very nice set.

Hardcover. Leech, John (illustrator). 8vo. Uniformly bound in 3/4 red polished calf. Boards are marbled, as are the foredges and endpapers. All full page plates have been hand-coloured. Many b&w illustrations. Each volume shows minor rubbing to extremities of boards. Leather on spine a bit wrinkled, as from the volumes being pressed open - leather still sound - no cracking. Former owner's bookplate on inside front board of each volume. No other markings, and contents clean throughout. A few small scrapes to front endpapers of 'Mr. Horrock's Hounds'. Hinges and joints tight. Small 'bubbles' to cloth of all volumes, possibly due to production defect in the application of the glue. Dark spot to rear board of 'Handley Cross'. A very handsome set on the shelf and overall in good plus condition. Images are available. These six works uniformly bound by Dickers & Song, Leicester Square in 11 volumes of three quarter crimson morocco leather with red cloth boards, marbled endsheets and top edge gilt. One raised band creating two compartments Tilt lettering on spine with tooled edge at top & bottom of spine. Bottom compartment has bird, arrows, heart and horseshoe designs embossed. Illustrated by many full page and in-text engravings, and hand colored steel engravings, most by John Leech, but a handful by H.K. Browne and W.T. Maud. Overall the books are in excellent condition and would be listed as near new if it was not for the sunning. but the back quarter inch of the cloth has been sunned. Pevious owner's signature on front free endpage of each volume. A quite lovely set. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Hardcover.
