Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Carrington, Hereward and Nandor Fodor (illustrator). 1st Edition. Stated first edition. Octavo gray cloth stamped, in black. Contains the story, The Talking Mongoose by Fodor. Nandor Fodor was a Hungarian-American parapsychologist, psychoanalyst, and author renowned for investigating 1930s paranormal cases, most notably Gef the Talking Mongoose on the Isle of Man. Fodor visited in 1935 but never saw the creature, concluding the case was likely a psychological phenomenon or hoax, likely involving ventriloquism by the daughter. The story was made into the 2023 movie, Nandor Fodor and the Talking Mongoose. This copy INSCRIBED BY FODOR on the front free endpaper. A very good copy, with only shallow fraying at the upper spine tip and preserved in a very good dust jacket which has a small chip at the base of the spine and fraying at the top of the spine. Very scarce inscribed. Inscribed by Author(s).

Condition: Very good in very good jacket. Dust Jacket Condition: dj. First printing. Signed first hardcover trade edition, and first UK edition, of this adaptation of the classic horror movie. Your humble cataloguer first saw this movie in 1982, when it was briefly re-released in theaters for the Halloween season (in the dawning days of video rental). A mere lad of 10, I was probably too young to be watching this suburban horror. But I'd been out of school for a week with a mysterious rash and my father - likely encouraged erroneously by the family-friendly name "Spielberg" - took pity upon me and brought me to see a late afternoon matinee at the now-defunct Seaview Square Cinema. We emerged into the darkness of evening and it wasn't until we got home, my mother screaming when she saw me, that we realized that the stress of the film had apparently caused my rash to creep up the entire right side of my face. I didn't care. Though I didn't sleep that night (nervously eyeing the closet, trying not to think of the trees outside), the movie - which depicted a family, house, and neighborhood like mine - touched something elemental in me. I know none of this will help sell this book, but it is what comes immediately whenever I think (affectionately) about POLTERGEIST. And maybe I'll just keep the book anyway. The movie remains not only one of my favorites of all time, but one of the best horror films ever made - perfectly capturing (the terror of) the middle class 1980s, of which I was duly a part. 8.25'' x 5.25''. Original black textured boards. In original unclipped (no price, as issued)color pictorial jacket. 224 pages. Signed by Kahn on the title page. Some mild foxing, spotting to text-block edges. Additional foxing to verso of jacket (only). Touches of shelfwear, rubbing. Overall, sound. Signed.

Hardcover. Condition: Very good. Dust Jacket Condition: fair. First Edition. 222p, octavo. A very good copy in a fair dust jacket. Jacket chipped, front flap detached but present. Small stain on top edge of textblock. Foxed. Inscribed by Fodor to friends on the first free end paper, "To Leo and Sybil, to divest them of the year of the supernatural or make them respect it. NY Sept. 1958. Nandor." A scarce title, even more so signed. Nandor Fodor spent his life bridging the gap between parapsychology and psychoanalysis. A contemporary and rival of Harry Price in the field of psychic research, Fodor pioneered the theory that poltergeists are external manifestations of conflicts within the subconscious mind rather than autonomous entities with minds of their own (Timms, 2012). His earlier research on poltergeists was a source of inspiration for Shirley Jackson's novel "The Haunting of Hill House". Fodor was an advisor alongside Jackson on Robert Wise's 1963 film adaptation "The Haunting." An early draft of this book was read by Sigmund Freud, who found it "richly rewarding" and its results "highly probable"; his full letter to Fodor can be found in the introduction.
